TEACHING
As an Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, I teach graduate courses in:
Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Psychotherapy Theory and Methods
Diagnosis/Psychopathology
Trauma/PTSD
Group Psychotherapy
Social Justice & Advocacy in Counseling
My pedagogy blends academic rigor with creative engagement, inviting students to explore personal meaning, cultural context, and ethical awareness in their clinical work. I am critical of the medical model, the DSM, dehumanizing systems, and symptom-only focused therapies. Psychotherapy is a healing art and a social science. Our lives are more complex, complicated, and mysterious than these reductionistic approaches acknowledge. My teaching reflects this complexity and deep appreciation for the human soul in learning to become a psychotherapist.
I also provide training and mentorship in:
Motivational Interviewing
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies
Existential and Transpersonal Therapies
Cultural Competency
Reflective Supervision
RESEARCH & WRITING
My scholarly work focuses on:
Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology
Psychedelic Integration and Consciousness Studies
LGBTQ+ Identity and Religious Reconciliation
Group Psychotherapy and Community-Based Healing
I’ve authored scholarly books, journal articles, and technical reports and presented academic papers exploring mental health, spirituality, mindfulness/meditation, transpersonal psychology, psychedelic-assisted therapy, social change, group psychotherapy, and soul-centered healing.
Recent highlights include:
“Models of Spiritual Development” in The Oxford Handbook of the Psychology of Spirituality (2nd ed.)
The Praeger Handbook for Social Justice and Psychology (Vols. 1–3)
“Psychedelics and Spiritual Development” paper presented at the Zarrow Mental Health Symposium
Published works on mystical experiences, forgiveness, trauma, and indigenous healing
